As a council we face the same challenges every business does - investing in the right places and delivering great results. Except for us, it’s all about our 289,000 residents. We’re totally focussed on helping to improve their lives and making Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work.

More about the role:

Flitwick Library is more than a place where you can find books, it is a valuable resource for the community and provides a place for members of the public to apply for jobs,

research topics of interest, and take part in clubs.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person, who is able to provide a first-class service to customers at Flitwick Library. You will deliver a high level of customer service and interact effectively

with a wide range of people on a daily basis. The day-to-day duties include: assisting customers to use our self-service terminals, finding books and information for customers, taking part in

promotional activities for both children and adults, and dealing with library stock. You will actively promote and encourage the use of the library by meeting and greeting, floor-walking, and

other activities.

You will help to deliver a vibrant, high-quality, relevant, and sustainable library service by contributing to Library Strategy priorities, engaging with new and existing customers and helping

to increase library usage, and supporting the continuing modernisation and transformation of this important service.

Experience of working with the public in front-line customer service, IT skills (GNVQ level 2 or equivalent), and an interest in books, reading, and information are essential. While experience

of working in a library would be advantageous, more importantly, you will bring your enthusiasm, great communication skills, and excellent customer service.

Although you will be based at one library, you must be able to work flexibly at other libraries if required. These posts are fixed hours.

Join us and find your greatness by helping us to deliver better services to the local community.

What we can offer you

As well as joining a friendly, dedicated, and hardworking team you will have access to numerous benefits, including:

  • A comprehensive IT package to support you to work safely and effectively
  • Generous family friendly policies and practices
  • A welcoming and inclusive environment that empowers differences
  • Friendly and supportive staff networks
  • Annual leave allowance 25 days + statutory holidays rising to 32 days with length of service.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). This is a valuable part of our rewards package for employees and includes Life Assurance. You can find out more on the Bedfordshire Pension Fund website.
  • An exceptional Employee Assistance Programme which helps support employees with workplace changes as well as other work, family and personal issues
  • A huge variety of courses and role-specific training and learning to help you succeed and develop
  • Access to discounts on top UK retailers and local retailers
