Post Title: Library Customer Service Assistant (2 positions available)
SBU/Department: Library and Computing Services

FTE: 1 FTE (working 37 hours per week) for both positions
Duration of Contract: One permanent contract and one fixed term contract to 31st July 2024 available
Salary: UH3 £23,149 per annum
Location: College Lane Campus and De Havilland Campus

Main duties and responsibilities
The Library and Customer Services are looking for a candidate that has a commitment to providing a high standard of customer service. You will carry out a range of duties essential to the running of our two large Learning Resources Centres and day-to-day delivery of our facilities and services. You will work from 9:30am – 18:00pm Monday to Friday and will assist in maintaining a high-quality learning environment.
You will participate in the interaction with users of the library by answering enquiries, promoting and referring people to specialist services and making bookings. You will provide a warm welcome to all customers and visitors whilst being highly visible, whilst taking ownership that the appropriate standards are adhered to within areas of the library, in relation to shelving, appearance, layout, healthy and safety reporting and noise.
The successful candidate will carry out checks on library facilities and equipment, whilst updating and monitoring a range of University systems to support service delivery. You will liaise with colleagues internal and external to LCS to develop best practices in service provision and train other staff as required. You will be expected to provide administrative support to LCS including handling card payments, ordering and receiving items, maintaining records, diaries and databases and general office duties. At times you will be required to undertake other physical tasks.
Skills and experience needed
The Library Customer Service Assistant will require essential experience in providing great customer service with effective communication and interpersonal skills. You will be able to cope with the physical demands of the work including moving trolleys of books and being on your feet much of the day.
You will be required to have essential IT skills in using Microsoft Packages and Outlook with accurate keyboard typing skills, along with having a methodical approach to situations and hold attention to detail. You will also be able to work effectively in a team and be flexible to team and workload requirements, whilst being willing to learn new skills and having a can-do attitude. A polite and helpful telephone manner is essential.
Qualifications required
You will have GCSEs grade C/grade 4 or above in Mathematics and English or equivalent, or proven professional work experience.
