Job description
The Continuing Education Library is looking for an approachable person who is methodical and accurate in their work, able to complete tasks such as shelving books and who can provide excellent customer service. You will assist us on Mondays and Tuesdays 15.00-19.30 during the Continuing Education Department’s Term (33 weeks in 3 blocks of 11 weeks).
The Continuing Education Library serves the needs of part-time students from a wide range of age groups and backgrounds who are studying a broad spectrum of subjects. A key part of our role is to provide an efficient and welcoming service which enables students, some of whom have little experience of academic libraries, to make the most of the Library's resources.
Your main duties will include shelving, issuing, and returning books and helping students with basic enquiries. Other tasks will include scanning and processing books and creating online reading lists. In addition, you will sometimes work on book moves and stock-weeding projects.
You will be working closely with other members of our small team and on rare occasions on your own.
To be considered for the role, you will demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail and provide evidence of exceptional customer service and of working with confidence with a wide range of people. You will be able to lift books and use step ladders and will demonstrate good team working skills as well as being able to work on your own.
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example, shared parental leave.
