Job description
Directorate: Communities & Place
Hours: 13 hours a week
Contract Type: Permanent
Location: Normanton Library, St Augustine’s Community centre, DE23 6LX
Normanton Library is a library that serves a diverse local community. We are looking for a Library Assistant who will contribute to Normanton Library becoming a vibrant and popular destination for local children. Normanton Library hosts regular Rhymetimes, school class visits, events, and activities for families so the confidence and ability to engage with – and promote reading to – children are key.
Libraries are hubs for digital access and offer regular Code Clubs, Technology events and IT Taster sessions, so experience and a strong knowledge of IT and for example Scratch are essential, as is the confidence and ability to support others using IT.
You will need a good understanding of customer care and have the skills necessary to enthuse customers about the library offer.
Being a positive and flexible member of the team is key to the role.
Post holders must be able to work the timetabled hours, and willing to work outside of timetabled hours occasionally. Evening and Saturday working is essential.
Normanton Library is over two floors, and you will need to be trained in evacuation procedures. The successful candidate will also be expected to work at any library across the city if required.
All employees will normally be appointed to the minimum of the grade for the job. For reasons connected with a particular need of the Council it may be appropriate, subject to approval, to appoint to a higher point in the pay grade.
Please be aware that where there are staff within the organisation who are 'at risk' of redundancy, requirements to redeploy to another suitable role will apply and take priority.
