Our Library Assistants are key members of our team, providing front line help and great face to face customer service to our students, staff and visitors on campus. We require a full time Library Assistant Customer Services to work at our Headington Library. The pattern of work will normally be Monday - Friday 09.00 - 17.00.
The Headington Library is located within the award winning John Henry Brookes Building on the Headington Campus.
The main activities of the post include:
- Helping students with basic enquiries, both face to face and online, and contributing to roving and walkabout activities.
- Using the OCLC Worldshare library system to issue, discharge and renew library materials, and to answer general queries relating to the system.
- Showing library users how to use the self-service kiosks and explaining procedures.
- Interrogating LibrarySearch and Library webpages to answer queries.
- Dealing with visitors to the Library.
In addition, Library Assistants may be required to work on a range of activities such as holds (reservations) processing, inter-library loans, invoicing, equipment checking, dealing with returned items, photocopier / printer / scanner basic troubleshooting, shelving, stock taking, withdrawals.
As this is a student facing role the postholder will be based on campus.
As Library Assistant Customer Services you will:
- provide excellent customer services to all Library users both face to face and online
- support students in their use of self-service, and help users with basic enquiries
- contribute to the effectiveness of the team through good communication and team working skills
- provide a range of administrative support, including retrieving stock and processing reservations
You should have:
- practical experience of working in library, archive, clerical or retail role(s), including face to face customer service.
- demonstrable excellent customer care skills.
- good communication and interpersonal skills.
- proven ability to work methodically and accurately, with good attention to detail.
