Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and versatile individual to deliver high-quality library reader services. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a varied and interesting role across both the English Faculty Library and the Philosophy & Theology Faculties Library. Your duties will include front-line reader services and essential support for readers in using the libraries and collections.
You will have a strong customer service focus and a commitment to providing excellent quality service, as well as the ability to communicate effectively. You will be able to work well as part of a team, to work under pressure, and to undertake a range of routine tasks with care and accuracy. You will have good general IT literacy, and knowledge of library databases and online resources. Previous experience of working in a library environment, and of using an automated library management system, will be an advantage.
This is a full-time, fixed position, working 36.5 hours per week until 31 July 2025, with some evening and Saturday duties which will be compensated by Time Off In Lieu (TOIL). The role is expected to be based usually at the EFL for 2 days a week and the PTFL for 3 days a week, but the pattern may vary.
This role requires lifting and carrying boxes of library materials, pushing trolleys, climbing ladders and kick-stools in order to access some of the library’s bookshelves and to re-shelve materials. As other staff leave the library at 17:00, this may occasionally be a lone-working post.
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as several family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example shared parental leave.
The annual leave entitlement for full-time posts is 30 days, plus bank holiday allowance. University employees are also eligible to join the relevant pension scheme for their role. Further information on the University’s staff benefits for both work and personal life can be found here: https://hr.admin.ox.ac.uk/staff-benefits.
You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one.
Only applications received online before 12:00 midday (BST/GMT) on Friday 2 June 2023 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place during the week commencing Monday 19 June 2023.
