BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to provide circulation services to library patrons and callers. This is accomplished by greeting customers, registering new patrons and issuing library cards, updating entries, checking materials in and out, answering general telephone queries, instructing customers in library procedures, and instructing in the use of materials and equipment. When not scheduled to work at the Circulation Desk, other duties may include preparing materials for special programs, maintaining supplies, locating items for Interlibrary Loan, locating items with problem statuses, assisting with donated materials, receiving new materials, preparing new materials for circulation, conducting preliminary archival research and performing routine patron database maintenance.

1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
2 S Provides services to patrons by greeting customers as they walk in, handling complaints, comments and suggestions, answering the telephone and responding to questions or inquiries, demonstrating equipment use, and offering assistance with self-service functions.
3 S Works the circulation desk by registering new patrons, renewing accounts, updating information, entering data, checking materials in and out, collecting fines and payments, replacing cards, searching for materials and inspecting returned materials.
4 S Sorts items in circulation workroom, accurately shelves returned materials, collects materials for statistical counts, assist with inventories as and when needed.
4 M Performs secondary duties to include preparing materials for special programs, maintaining supplies, locating items for Interlibrary Loan, locating items with problem statuses, assisting with donated materials, receiving new materials, preparing new materials for circulation, conducting preliminary archival research and performing routine patron database maintenance.

Formal Education Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
