Summary
Wiltshire Libraries are looking for a Librarian to manage and develop a high performing library service at Erlestoke Prison, a Category C establishment in Wiltshire.The Librarian will be responsible for leading a small team of library assistants and prison orderlies to deliver the day-to-day operation of the library.

About the role
The Librarian will be responsible for leading a small team of library assistants and prison orderlies to deliver the day-to-day operation of the library. The successful applicant will proactively seek internal and external partnerships to create and build a programme of activities and events to support reading for pleasure, development of literacy skills and the wider education of offenders.
A key part of the role will involve working with internal partners and Wiltshire Council Public Health to support improved prisoner well-being outcomes by providing health literacy information and collaborative interventions and projects.
The Librarian will also have experience of library stock acquisition, be able to manage the library budget and provide monitoring information and reports. They will possess the ability to collaborate with the prison education service to develop the library offer and enrich the quality of life of the prison population.
About You
- The successful candidate will be a registered Chartered Librarian or willing to become Chartered within two years of appointment.
- Excellent management and organisational skills
- You will be able to demonstrate a passion for reading and the skills to deliver innovative reading promotions and events.
- Be able to work creatively, innovatively and with vision.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- You will be resilient and able to work independently and be a team player to deliver high levels of customer service in a challenging setting.
- Have experience of staff management, with confidence to lead and motivate the library team to work collaboratively towards common targets and outcomes.
- You will need to be qualified to degree or post graduate qualification level in Librarianship or another related discipline and have proven management experience of working in libraries.
- This role is subject to successful security and identity vetting through the prison service.
