Would you like to design and develop challenging Engineering solutions? Are you motivated to work in a fast moving, quality driven team? Perhaps you would like to get hands on with some manufactured components? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, our Level 6 Product Design and Development Engineer apprenticeship could be the ideal apprenticeship scheme for you!
We are looking for 5 talented apprentices to join our team at our Peterborough facility; 4 to join our Component Engineering team, and 1 to join our Service and Customer Support team. This 5-year degree apprenticeship scheme will enable you to grow and develop your capabilities. From day one you will be embedded in a team solving real world problems and through combining university-based learning with on-the-job training you’ll learn the latest skills and knowledge from our Engineering experts.
Our Component Engineering team is the home to the Caterpillar Europe Research & Development Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that positions technical specialists where they are needed most to identify, build and perfect the technologies and solutions to help our customers be successful. Caterpillar invests more than $2 billion each year in research and development across the organisation, and our global engineering community, such as our Product Engineering and Development team, powers our efforts. This team employ those technologies and solutions to provide class leading power systems to both Caterpillar and other original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s). In addition, will have the opportunity to witness the development of, for mass production, diesel engines, their associated aftertreatment and their integration into machines used in power generation, construction, mining agriculture and marine.
Our Service and Customer Support team thrives to make our customers more successful every day by supporting the technical aspects of installing and caring for our products with end user throughout their lifecycle. Day to day duties will include but not be limited to:
answering technical questions from customers
supporting new engine installations into machines with customers
managing engine service and quality issues and considering commercial aspects
producing engine service training material and literature
managing warranty claims
visiting customers to provide field support
working our extended Dealer & Distributor network to improve capability and business growth continually strive to improve the quality of our Products and Services working with our engineering teams to provide customer insight.
Apprentices will complete the Level 6 Product Design and Development Engineer apprenticeship and will likely be required to attend university on a block release basis. Apprentices will be required to travel.
What we need from you: “Knowledge and competencies”
GCSEs: Three Level 5 (C) or above including Maths, English and a STEM subject.
A-Levels: Minimum of 112 tariff points required including Grade B in A-Level Mathematics. 112 tariff points can be made up of A-Levels or equivalent qualifications in any Engineering or relevant STEM subjects (Physics is recommended).
NOTE: Equivalent academic qualifications to the above requirements welcome. You can apply with predicted grades. If you’re successful at the interview stage, the job offer will be conditional on you achieving the required grades before September 2023.
