Our Base and Line Maintenance Centre is the fastest-growing Service Centre in Europe and the largest Business Aircraft OEM in the UK. About the Programme:
The partnership with Bombardier and Marshalls Skills Academy is a path that will give you real-world, hands-on experience of working in an aerospace engineering environment with qualifications in:
Year 1
Aviation Mechanic - Level 2 Diploma in Aerospace and Aviation Engineering (Foundation Competence). The initial induction will take place in Cambridge, potentially based off-site and living away from home.
Year 2 & 3
Level 3 Diploma in Aviation Maintenance (Development Competence) & completion of UK CAA Aircraft Maintenance A License qualification through an approved Part 147 Training Organisation. Years 2 & 3 will be completed out Bombardier Service Centre in Biggin Hill Airport.
What to expect:
As an engineering apprentice you will be exposed to a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours to meet the Engineering Technician Standard. Not only will this demonstrate competency in the role but will complement wider business strategy and enable you to support your long-term career development. You work alongside highly skilled engineers and mechanics, receive comprehensive On-the-Job Training as well as be supported by a mentor throughout the programme.
You will return to Bombardier Services to complete Year 2 and 3 as an aircraft fitter, where you will continue studying your Level 3 Aircraft Maintenance Diploma and study for your A UK CAA A License Modules. You will be expected to demonstrate the high level of skill and knowledge required to carry out maintenance repairs and modifications to a variety of Bombardier Business Jet aircraft, safely, on time and within budget.
As both an apprentice and fitter, duties will include:
You will work within our teams on scheduled aircraft maintenance and servicing
You will rotate with unscheduled aircraft maintenance including defect rectification to aircraft systems and components
You will conduct repairs to airframe structures
You will perform all levels of modifications to aircraft structures, systems and interiors
You will conduct other related duties, including operation of ground equipment, assistance in aircraft movements and aircraft delivery
As an aircraft fitter at Bombardier, your role has, by necessity, a very high level of quality control in order to maintain the aircraft safely and to regulatory standards. There is a requirement of you to gain a developed understanding or Bombardier processes and procedures in order to be compliant with these standards.
Entry requirements:
You will have 5 GCSEs predicted or confirmed at Grade C/4 or equivalent. These must include Mathematics, English and a Science at Grade C/4 or above
You will have not already completed the same or similar Level 2 or 3 qualifications or apprenticeship
You meet the funding criteria related to right to work and residency eligibility
You have successfully completed the security and medical requirements
You will have successful completed the training providers security requirements.
Funding Eligibility:
- You must work at least 30 hours per week.
You must not currently be on a funded training programme
You must spend at least 50% of your working hours in England over the duration of the Apprenticeship
You will have the right to work in UK
You will have an eligible residency status
Maths & English functional skills
A mandatory requirement of the Engineering Technician Apprenticeship is Level 2 in both Maths & English or GCSE grade A*-C or 4 and above. We would recommend that all successful candidates can evidence that they hold these qualifications or expect to obtain these grades prior to starting.
