The role

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with research or teaching background to join the Faculty of Life Sciences as a Level 1 Teaching Technician


Working as part of a wider faculty team, the role holder will primarily assist the Lead Teaching Technicians and teaching Laboratory Technicians, to provide essential laboratory support for the teaching programmes of the three Schools within the Biomedical Sciences Building (Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Medicine, and Physiology and Pharmacology). During quieter periods, the role holder will also assist the wider technical teams in the Biomedical sciences building to support the ongoing research.

What will you be doing?

You will be supporting a range of teaching programmes, with the opportunity to expand your knowledge of teaching / research techniques and contribute to the smooth running of teaching laboratories and classes. Duties will include equipment setup / maintenance, preparing experimental material and solutions, decontamination of the labs, glassware washing / preparation and waste management for teaching / research purposes.

You should apply if

Preferably you should have experience of working in a laboratory environment, in the biosciences and with chemical and biological reagents and material. You will also have an enthusiasm for scientific teaching and research, and a desire to provide high quality technical support for teaching / research purposes.

Due to the nature of the job, flexible working hours are required at times e.g. early starts / late finishes, during busy teaching periods. You should also demonstrate organisational and administrative skills, be efficient and adaptable and used to working in a busy dynamic laboratory environment. The ability to work as part of a team, prioritise effectively and work to meet the teaching deadlines is essential.
