Reports to Duty Supervisor / Swimming Coordinator
Salary £20,103 per annum (pro rata) / £10.42 per hour
1.0 Job Purpose
To provide Swimming Instruction to children / adults on the Aura Learn to swim
Programme in line with the programmes scheme of works. To provide safe
supervision and a high level of instruction to leisure centre customers within the pool
area and across the Leisure centre. To assist the management team in all day to day
operational aspects of the leisure centre
2.0 Principle Accountabilities
2.1 Setting up and taking down sporting equipment and
Preparation of area's ready for use by the public.
2.2 Ensure the safe supervision of customers within the
leisure facility.
2.3 Provide emergency response and first aid to customers
as and when required.
2.4 Clean as and when required ensuring a high level of
hygiene and cleanliness is maintained throughout the
leisure facility at all times.
2.5 Undertake general maintenance of sports equipment as
and when required.
2.6 Delivery of swimming lessons including swimmer assessments. Instruction of
swimming to primary school, following learn to swim scheme of works. Assessment of
children and delivery of awards.
2.7 Provide information and advice to customers on leisure
centre facilities and activities.
2.8 Cover other team members breaks as and when required
2.9 Completion of check sheets as per Normal operating Procedures
3.0 Job Context
The job is essentially to provide safe supervision and provide an instruction service to
users. It also provides support to the operation of the whole centre and is an essential
front-line job in the management and delivery of the leisure service.

6.0 Skills and Experience
Team working – ability to work with others to build a team and a good
atmosphere in the fitness suite.
Good interpersonal skills – Ability to communicate with customers to
encourage safe practices are maintained across the site
Good general standard of education and the ability to communicate with public and
colleagues
National Pool Lifeguard qualification which must be maintained throughout employment.
NVQ Level 1 or 2 teaching or coaching qualification in a relevant sport

NVQ 2 (or equivalent) in one of the following:
a) National Pool Lifeguard qualification – Or willingness to complete
the qualification within a given time period
b) Coaching, Swim Teaching or Willingness to complete a Swimming
Teaching Qualification within a given time period
Experience Part of a sporting group / team, Teaching, coaching, mentoring or
supervising small/large groups.
Skills Good customer service and communication skills
Other Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team, Friendly,
Enthusiastic Personality
Desirable
Education NVQ Level 2 Qualification in Sport and Recreation
NVQ Level 2 National Pool Lifeguard or First Aid Qualification
Experience Experience of working within the sports and recreation industry
Skills NVQ Level 2 in Customer Care
Other Knowledge of Health and Safety, Cleaning Procedures, Control Of
Substance Hazardous to Health Regulations, Manual Handling
Regulations and using Correct Lifting Techniques
