Job description

Jo Holdsworth Recruitment are currently working with an exceptional law firm in Wetherby who cover a variety of different areas. My client offers a wide range of services for individuals and families on a range of matters such as divorce, resolving financial disputes, disputes surrounding children and civil partnerships. On top of this, the firm also provides a comprehensive range of legal services to businesses and handles a whole range of commercial property issues. They are currently recruiting for a Legal Secretary on a full time and permanent basis.

The main responsibility of the legal secretary is to provide direct support to management and other staff members to enable the team to operate smoothly. The main responsibilities of the Legal Secretary are:

Main responsibilities:

  • To prepare correspondence and documents through audiotyping and word processing
  • To manage all company filing which will include daily filing and the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of client files in accordance with the detailed procedures contained in the Office Manual
  • To prepare mail and enclosures ready for dispatch.
  • To arrange for all copying to be done, in person if reception is not available to undertake the task
  • To make appointments, arrange meetings and to maintain an up-to-date diary for the manager
  • To provide support to other secretaries as required
  • To provide guidance to junior and temporary secretaries when required to do so
  • To speak with clients both in person and on the telephone and to provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care
  • To undertake any specific training when required to do so and overall to have a responsibility towards self-development
  • To ensure the confidentiality of all the firm’s and clients’ documentation and information

Required qualifications, skills, and experience

  • Have prior experience working as a secretary
  • High word processing and audio typing skills
  • Preferably have experience working within a legal environment
  • Good telephone manner and strong communication skills
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
