Job description
The RSPCA Middlesex North West & South West Hertfordshire Branch operates as a small, separately registered charity, under the national structure, promoting animal welfare in our local area. We are responsible for raising our own funds to support various branch activities including rehoming a variety of small animals, supporting local pet owners, and offering animal welfare education to schools and community groups.
We are looking for a volunteer with a passion for animal welfare, and a background and experience in property dealings, to join us as a trustee.
Purpose of the role:
· to provide guidance and support to ensure the trustees’ highest of level of understanding of any shop leases or matters relating to the purchase of property for an animal centre.
· to alert trustees to any details in contracts which require further clarification or legal advice.
· to aid the committee of trustees in reaching decisions in respect of all Branch related matters
What is involved in the role?
· Attend monthly trustees’ meetings, held virtually at Google Meet and face to face once every three months.
· Ensure that the Branch’s property dealings are linked to the RSPCA’s charitable objectives, are legal and fit the culture of the organisation.
· Ensure the board of trustees monitors and reviews the management of its properties and leases.
· Examine contracts, in particular those linked to leases or property purchases, and draw the attention of the Trustees and the Branch Manager to and aspects that need further clarification or legal advice.
· Ensure the board of trustees understands and fulfils its responsibilities in relation to property dealings.
Skills and Experience
Key qualities:
· Legal experience in relation to property contracts.
· Able to demonstrate a good understanding of developments in the property market.
· Attention to detail and sound, independent judgement.
Desirable
· Strong commitment to animal welfare
· Experience in the charitable or voluntary sector
· Experience of charity law and governance
