Job description

About Bits

At Bits, we are on a mission to help consumers build credit, focusing on 12 million underbanked and marginalised people in the UK and over 100 million in the US. We are building the tools that empower the next generation of homeowners, families, explorers, thinkers and people to live a healthy, strong financial life.

Founded in 2018, Bits is now the default for building credit without getting credit cards (especially with bad rates) or other forms of credit building. Our developer team is distributed across Europe remotely, while our executive, HR, marketing, legal and design teams are based in London. We’re a heavily diverse team of individuals, with decades of experience in the financial sector, and care greatly about the quality of our work.

About the Role:

This is a unique opportunity to gain first hand experience working as in-house legal consultants in a fast paced, high growth environment. You’ll be working closely with our founder and CEO to drive the business forward, and solve complex product issues through legal research and advice. This is a program launched last year, and has since had multiple BPP/UoL students join the team during their studies.

“Working at Bits allowed me to apply current knowledge I gained on the LPC to actual business problems, and provide practical advice to Bits’s team. This was a very fruitful experience, and reinforced my LPC knowledge. Whilst the start-up environment is inevitably fast-paced, I was fortunate to work with incredibly friendly and competent colleagues, who provided lots of guidance and support throughout my time at Bits.”

— Jarren Koh, incoming 1st year Associate at top 5 global law firm.

We are hiring for up to 3 current students for this position.

This is a part time role, 10-20 hours per week.

Salary: £12-£15/ hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Completing extensive research into complex UK and US financial legislation
  • Compiling findings into an easily digestible and actionable format
  • Applying legal understanding to product requirements to ensure compliance whilst encouraging innovation.
  • Working with the team to provide legal guidance on business issues

Requirements:

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Creative “out of the box” thinking
  • Interest in finance/tech law
