Legal Counsel (Construction) Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C Nuclear New Build Projects

The Opportunity
The EPR Programme unites two of the most exciting projects in the UK, Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Working with industry leading advisors, negotiating directly with key suppliers, and interfacing with key stakeholders, including HMG and investors, this is an exciting role offering an opportunity to own and manage crucial workstreams with a particular specialism in construction and supply chain contracts.

The EPR Programme Legal Team are based in either our London or Bristol office, with flexibility on a weekly basis to work from home. Flexible working means we’ll provide a suite of IT equipment to ensure that you can work remotely comfortably and effectively.

What you’ll be doing
As a Legal Counsel (Construction) you’ll sit within our EPRP Legal team based in either London or Bristol. The work of this team supports all areas of both the HPC and SZC projects and is critical to the success of each project.
You’ll support the procurement, negotiation, and management of a wide range of contracts required for the construction, operation, and maintenance of both nuclear power stations.
You’ll work with our internal stakeholders and external advisors to advise on procurement and contracting strategies, commercial models, performance securities, insolvency risk and the avoidance of disputes.
You’ll manage complex governance arrangements and ensure alignment with the requirements of each project’s current shareholders and, in the case of SZC, future potential shareholders/investors, including the UK Government and Ofgem.
You’ll understand strategic stakeholder and funding requirements that are relevant to construction and operation of the project and translating / flowing these down into supply chain deliverables and commitments.
You’ll understand, oversee, and advise on complex IPR structures.
You’ll support the business in understanding regulatory compliance obligations and demonstrating best practice.
Who you are
Being a Legal Counsel at EDF means demonstrating excellent communication, coaching, and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor the communications style to suit a variety of audiences, including the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to a range of audiences both verbally and in writing.
You’ll have the ability to work independently, planning and managing matters in accordance with the business’s timing requirements and under the supervision of a more senior lawyer where required.
You’ll be able to build, maintain and develop strong relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders with the ability to quickly establish credibility.
You’ll be able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, work under pressure to meet deadlines and manage work priorities accordingly, capable of working on numerous matters concurrently.
You’ll be able to demonstrate both attention to detail and the ability to provide highly pragmatic and strategic legal advice in the context of an established, commercial, operational business.
We’re looking for someone with relevant post qualification experience as a solicitor admitted in England and Wales or commonwealth jurisdiction. With the ability to demonstrate well rounded legal knowledge, commercial acumen, and experience preferably (though not necessarily) in the projects or construction sector.
