Job description
Mian & Co Criminal Defence Solicitors are recruited for at least one legal caseworker.
The position will be held on a trial basis for the first 3 months with the option to go permanent thereafter. Specific salary and working terms are all open to negotiation, however we'd require approximately 30 hours of work spread across Mon-Fri.
The Role includes but is not limited to:
- Writing letters to clients and speaking to clients
- Assisting solicitors with their legal cases including diary management - booking conferences, prison visits, police station interviews, contacting courts etc
- Attending conferences with clients to take instructions
- Liaising with barristers, chambers, courts, clerks and other stakeholders to ensure all cases are covered and dealt with in a timely manner
- Ad hoc duties such as supporting with all other aspects of the day-to-day running of a criminal defence firm. EG: opening and maintaining files on specialist legal software (LEAP), answering the telephone, organising and archiving files, monitoring the company email inbox.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Can work independently
- Takes initiative
- Has excellent organisational and diary management skills (it'll be down to you to structure and plan your work)
- Has excellent communication and letter-writing skills - you'll be dealing with clients and stakeholders from all walks of life.
- Can thrive under pressure
- Has some working knowledge of criminal law
Ideally the successful candidate lives in the Birmingham area and can travel into our city centre offices easily by car.
The job requires someone who is confident, organised and possesses good common sense.
