The Legal and Compliance Team at MVF is responsible for all legal, regulatory and compliance matters globally, including the UK, Europe, US, and other jurisdictions. The team supports all departments, and all levels of the business, with a broad range of work including, but is not necessarily limited to; commercial contracts, company secretarial, intellectual property, marketing and advertising, data protection & privacy, and financial services/regulated products.

We work across all of MVF, building strong relationships with internal clients on a broad range of multi-jurisdictional work. We help MVF to achieve its vision by providing sound commercial advice on all aspects of growth, from optimising internal processes and training the business, to entering new markets and adapting to the ever-changing legal landscape. In our team, there isn't a single area of the business that you're not exposed to. You'll have lots of opportunities to tackle things independently whilst being part of a collegiate and supportive team!

What you'll be doing

  • Our clients - leading on client onboarding: drafting, reviewing & negotiating client contracts & maintaining precedents and our contract management system.
  • Our partners - leading on partner onboarding: drafting, reviewing & negotiating partnership contracts; maintaining precedents.
  • Our suppliers - leading on supplier onboarding: drafting, reviewing & negotiating supplier contracts, in particular SaaS agreements covering personal data.
  • Data protection/privacy - identifying & advising the business on a broad range of data topics including customer data handling in new markets, new uses of data by us & our marketing partners, testing new types of data analysis & advising on how data laws influence the design of our tech infrastructure.
  • Marketing - advising the business on our extensive marketing activity, including reviewing our ad copy, creating marketing guardrails, and delivering training to our creative teams on best practice.
  • Intellectual property - advising the business on use of both MVF proprietary & third-party IP including delivering training & reviewing trademark usage.
  • International - advising the business on our cross-border matters, which span all of our activity e.g. contracts, marketing & data handling (with a focus on the US, UK & EMEA).
  • New markets/growth areas/regulatory - undertaking legal research, instructing external counsel & translating it for MVF on key areas for the business including our US expansion.
  • Disputes - handling disputes across all key areas including data handling, marketing, IP & commercial contracts.
  • Corporate - supporting with corporate activities (e.g. preparing minutes, Companies House filings).
  • Compliance - supporting the Head of Compliance with aspects of MVF's compliance and Business Conduct programme
  • General - identifying & managing legal risks within the business, & leading in advising the business, as the key legal stakeholder/point of contact on a broad range of commercial matters spanning personal data usage, marketing, tech & IP.
  • Internal governance - maintaining our standard contracts & other documentation including privacy policies.

About you/Requirements for the role

  • At least 1-3 years of general in-house legal experience
    • Must have commercial contract experience, ideally cross-border
    • Must have data privacy and/or marketing experience
    • Ideally will have compliance experience
  • Positive, enthusiastic and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently, as well as within teams.
  • Excellent rapport & relationship building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A team player who works for the success of the wider Legal Team and MVF, and is eager to share their knowledge and network.
  • Commercially & solutions-focussed with an interest in data privacy and the Tech/Digital Marketing space.
