Temporary Legal Assistant Reference no: Greenwich RQ968471 Pay rate £19.30 per hour PAYE This opening assignment is for 1-2 months To be responsible to the Senior Lawyer for processing a range of work in respect of various Safeguarding Children matters, in particular all public law and private law proceedings Key responsibilities:
- To organise and carry out a range of legal work as allocated in the fields of public law and private law proceedings.
- To draft court documents including: court applications; case summaries; threshold documents; other routine pleadings; taking statements; drafting applications for police disclosure and assisting in drafting other legal documents. obtaining judgments, preparing cases for trial, liaising with relevant parties, attending case conferences and meetings, and attending court as required.
- To liaise with managers in the relevant departments keeping them informed of the progress of cases and ensuring that parties are aware of and comply with their deadlines.
- Collate documents to file and serve upon parties and to issue and serve court notices and witness summonses.
- To assist the client department in relation to private law matters including the filing and serving of Section 7 and Section 37 Reports.
- To undertake legal research – in legal matters relating to safeguarding children.
- To liaise with external solicitors, and barristers, experts, and other agencies and stakeholders.
- To establish and maintain an effective system for recording individual cases, outcomes and such other information as required.
- To establish and maintain tracking information, ensuring that such information is accurate and kept up-to-date to determine profitability of the pilot.
- To be involved in the promotion and development of the team’s work and in disseminating regular updates on points of law and practice
- Knowledge and understanding of the work and structure of Legal Services within a Local Authority environment
- Child Protection work experience of working as part of a team.
- Must have legal experience
- Must have excellent IT skills
- Must have excellent general administrative skills
- Must have good communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
- Must have an ability to conduct relevant research
- Must have ability to work with minimum supervision
- Must be organised and methodical approach
- Must have an ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
- Must have a willingness to undertake advocacy in relevant courts and Tribunals
