Job description
The Children’s Law Center of Central North Carolina (CLC) is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant to join its Education Advocacy Program (EAP). This individual will report to the Director of the Education Advocacy Program and will have the primary responsibility of supporting the EAP’s administrative needs. This individual may also provide support to the agency as a whole, as needed. We seek a team member who is committed to addressing educational inequity and who thrives in a collaborative team environment.
The EAP provides free legal advocacy, information and resources for students and families in Forsyth County, focusing on the rights of students with disabilities, students with mental or physical health needs that affect school performance, and students facing suspensions, expulsions, and alternative school placements.
Duties and Responsibilities
The core responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
· Opening and closing all EAP case files, and maintaining overall organization of these files
· Requesting and obtaining records for clients
· Performing initial client intake calls and serving as an initial point of contact for referrals to EAP
· Performing administrative tasks such as mail and email correspondence with clients, returning client phone calls, and scheduling client meetings for EAP Director
· Assisting in the collection of data and maintaining data accuracy
· Assisting in the planning, coordination, implementation, and follow-up of EAP’s community outreach and community workshops
· Adhering to all CLC policies and procedures

Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree, or NC Certified Paralegal
· Minimum of two years legal administrative experience preferred, but not required
· Bilingual applicants strongly preferred
· Strong communication skills and the ability to work with adults and children from diverse backgrounds who are in crisis situations
· Exemplary time management and organizational skills
· Ability to work independently and to accept supervision
· Preference will be given to applicants who have a demonstrated commitment to public interest work
