Job description

We are looking for a Legal Assistant to join our team. We are flexible around the location with a requirement to travel to our Scottish offices as and when required.

Job Purpose:

The successful candidate will report to the Legal Counsel and assist with the day-to-day management of the Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) framework for Johnston Carmichael LLP

The Role:

  • Assist in the development, management and monitoring the firm’s AML policy, processes and reporting
  • Liaise with the firm regarding complaints and potential Professional Indemnity matters, including assisting with the management of the relationship between the firm and its insurer
  • Assist in managing the firm’s risk management and reporting framework
  • Coordinate information for the firm’s annual compliance and insurance obligation
  • Assist in developing and providing monthly governance, risk and compliance reporting
  • Assist in the management and monitoring of all GRC policies including Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Bribery, Data Protection, Risk Management
  • Assist in undertaking annual compliance reviews as and when required
  • Assist in developing, managing and maintaining GRC information, advice and guidance to the firm
  • Assist in the production and collation of information to support the firm’s governance board and committees
  • Assist with the delivery of the GRC strategy and objectives into calendarized actions and deliverables
  • Assist with the firm’s other support functions (HR, Finance, IT, Health & Safety and property matters) to ensure a coordinated approach to support the firm’s operations
  • Assist with strategic GRC and Health & Safety projects

About you:

  • A legal qualification (or working towards) would be advantageous but not essential
  • Relevant experience in this or a similar role is desirable but not essential
  • Understanding or working knowledge of employment law would be an advantage
  • Track record of delivering within a fast-paced environment
  • Organised and detail oriented
  • Self-starter, initiative led and quick learner
  • Curious, able to question and challenge existing ways of working
  • Pragmatic, flexible and adaptable with the ability to manage changing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to positively impact and influence others
