Position:
Legal Assistant, Business Law
Purpose of the role:
As part of a Business Law Legal Assistant team, this role supports and administers the busy securities practices of four of BD&P's lawyers with a high degree of independence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for daily correspondence, document preparation, preparation and updating (both physical and digital) closing books and minute books.
- Involved in file opening, preparation, management and closing.
- Administer bring forward system/diaries.
- Provide administrative support such as routing/answering correspondence, booking meetings, coordinating calendars and schedules, entering time and facilitating client billing.
- Conduct searches and carry out investigations through internet and other means.
- Assist in preparation of various documents such as agreements, minutes, news releases, and resolutions.
- Assist with continuous disclosure and other securities filings as directed.
- Liaise with legal assistants, paralegals, lawyers, Corporate Services, clients and creditors on the files in progress.
- Assist other members of the team as needed.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Formal legal assistant education (Legal Assistant Diploma or similar).
- Minimum 4 years' experience as a legal assistant supporting a securities practice.
- Established legal software skills (Microsoft Office, Closing Folders, DocuSign, and Litera preferred) and high typing speed required.
- Familiarity with SEDAR and SEDI preferred.
- Familiarity with Diligent software preferred.
- Industry Knowledge: Knowledgeable and skilled in supporting a Securities Law practice.
- Organization: Exceptionally effective at planning ahead, organizing, and prioritizing.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy: Work product is consistently thorough and free of mistakes. Ensures work product is perfected prior to review by the lawyer.
- High standards: Establishes and models standards that guarantee exceptional quality and attention to detail. Continually seeking to improve processes and create efficiencies.
