Job description
Leeds Beckett has a thriving Computer Science student culture, with hundreds of students actively engaged in studying across a suite of awards, including specialisms in Sustainable Computing, Cyber Security and Data Science. In addition, we have a growing research capacity, with the Centre for Research in Computer Science and Applications, and the Cybercrime and Security Innovation Centre being a focus for our projects and partnerships.
As a result of expanding student numbers and increased research activity we are looking to make a significant investment in our team and in the future of computer science at Leeds Beckett. We are seeking a lecturer or senior lecturer in Data Science to join our successful team and make a key contribution to our future provision.
We are particularly proud of our success in preparing students to take up professional positions within the IT industry after graduation. Hence our courses aim to develop in students a wide range of practical skills using a range of tools and environments that have a strong footprint among our industry partners. In addition to the technical work we introduce students to key critical and theoretical issues in the computing domain. When combined our overarching aim is to enable students to put theory into practice, to develop hand-on skills and experience which will give them the confidence and capability to drive their career aspirations.
The successful candidate will typically possess a PhD. in an appropriate subject (equivalent industrial experience may be considered), will be able to complement and enhance our research profile and have a strong commitment to develop and deliver a curriculum that enthuses students from a wide range of backgrounds.
You will join the Computing Subject Group of academics based at our Headingley Campus. There are extensive and excellent specialist facilities located in a setting that offers many additional amenities for our students and staff.
We are also advertising opportunities in the specialist areas of Cyber Security and Software Engineering. These opportunities can be found on our website.
For an informal conversation about this role please contact Paul Doney, Head of Subject via email at [email protected]
To apply for this role please submit a CV and a covering letter of no more than two pages, addressing the essential criteria.
Closing date: 19 May 2023 (23:59) Please note that you will not be able to edit or submit a part-completed application form after the closing date.
Working here means you’ll also have access to a wide range of benefits including our generous pension schemes, excellent holiday entitlements, flexible and hybrid working, reduced study fees, subsidised fitness facilities and a lot more.
We welcome applications from all individuals and particularly from black and minority ethnic candidates as members of these groups are currently under-represented in the team. All appointments will be based on merit.
