We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and strive for our staff to be from diverse backgrounds. We positively encourage applications from individuals within under-represented groups and welcome applications from individuals regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.

An excellent opportunity exists for two individuals to join the teaching team on our internationally-recognised BA (Hons) Animation Production course.

The post is advertised as both Lecturer and Senior Lecturer level and the level of appointment will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience. For the specific qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience in relation to the two levels of post please refer to the relevant job description and person specification attached.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual with a professional level of knowledge and creativity in animation and design in the context of contemporary animation production. The candidate will possess an ability to teach across different areas of the animation production process.

Skills can include the ability to teach in the area of 2D/3D animation and design – not only the animation process itself, but also character design, layout/background design or storyboarding. Skills might also include the ability to teach in the area of Stop-Motion animation - not only the animation process itself, but also the design and fabrication of puppets, sets and props, and experience of cameras, lighting and compositing.

An understanding or experience of a professional production process, which might include making animated films, is important, as is some evidence of industry engagement and ability to prepare students for a professional career in animation. The professional-based skills and experience required for this role will include teaching two or more of the following:

  • 2D animation, including experience in current digital practices, such as digital cut-outs
  • Stop-Motion animation, including elements of fabrication
  • CG animation in the context of 2D/3D hybrid animation
  • Character design
  • Background and layout
  • Storyboarding
  • Concept work / visual development
  • Life drawing / observational drawing
  • VFX

Ideally you will have experience of teaching at degree level, taking responsibility for managing the effective learning of the students, including setting, supervising and assessing work. You will also be able to contribute to the development of the course curriculum and undertake a range of tutorial and pastoral responsibilities.

You should be able to work as part of a team, have excellent organisational and administrative skills and demonstrate a commitment to a student-centred approach to teaching and learning.

The successful applicant will be able to show evidence of a strong profile in Research, Teaching Excellence and/or Knowledge Exchange, or the potential to develop work in this direction. Experience of professional practice within animation or related industries is also important.

You should submit your application without help from AI Chatbots e.g. ChatGPT. Any applications whereby it is deemed that such content has been included, will be disqualified from the selection process.
