Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy
This full time role is available immediately on a 2 year fixed term basis. The post will be based in the Centre for Ecology and Conservation on the Penryn (Cornwall) campus of the University of Exeter.
Summary of the role
The post of Lecturer in Wildlife Science / Mammal Ecology will be to support the delivery of education and research in the field of wildlife ecology and management, and mammalian ecology, and more broadly conservation and applied ecology, and contribute to the supervision of pastoral tutees and research project students. If relevant, contribution to teaching of other topics in whole organism biology will be required.
The post will include the support and development of research proposals for wildlife science (conservation and management, including interdisciplinary studies), and would be well suited to a candidate developing their own research fellowship proposals.
The Centre for Ecology and Conservation comprises 70 permanent faculty, research groups, and >1000 taught students, based on our Cornwall Campus. Our Research and Education span Ecology & Conservation, Behaviour, Evolution, Marine Biology and Microbes. We have global top-ten status for Ecology (AWRU 2022), and are third in the UK for the quality of our Zoology education (Guardian GUG 2022). About you
For a Lecturer post you will:
- Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD or equivalent to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning;
- Possess a track record in applied ecology research and the publication of peer-reviewed research outputs;
- Have experience of applying for research grants from a variety of sources;
- Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students;
- Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities;
- Have evidence of ability to teach in a higher education setting;
- Understand the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion principles in higher education.
- Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
