This full time post is available 1st September on a permanent basis.

The role

You will contribute to extending the research profile of Art History and Visual Culture at Exeter. The post will include responsibility for the design, development and delivery of teaching and learning materials across a range of modules within the discipline.


You will also contribute to team-taught teaching in Art History and Visual Culture, which may include contributing to the field trip module, supervision of undergraduate final year dissertations, and where appropriate contribution to the MA Curation: Contemporary Art and Cultural Management.


Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in both art history and visual culture, and feel comfortable moving between these interlocking realms of our programme. Preference may be given to applicants with a research specialism in decolonial approaches and/or digital art history.


About you

You will have:

  • PhD or equivalent in Art History and Visual Culture and have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in a relevant active field of research
  • A strong record in attracting funding for research, or demonstrate potential to attract such funding
  • Awareness of feminist, queer, decolonial and intersectional debates in Art History and Visual Culture
  • An active approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research
  • Enthusiasm for delivering high quality undergraduate programmes
  • Strong connections and funded projects with business and community partners
  • Involvement in projects which develop impact

This role may offer the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.
