The Birmingham Institute of Media and English at Birmingham City University wishes to recruit a Lecturer in Media Production. The Institute is home to a thriving community of researchers and practitioners who serve a diverse student body. We aim to provide students with an outstanding educational experience through our industry-focused, research-led provision which ranges from foundation year to postgraduate research.
The post-holder will be part of the teaching team in the School of Media and will deliver modules at foundation year, undergraduate and postgraduate level, with a particular focus on the BA (Hons) Media Production and MA Media Production. They will have professional knowledge and industry experience in the field of media production (video and audio) and broadcast practices. They will have research expertise in a related area, and this will contribute to the work of research clusters in the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research. The Institute would particularly welcome applications from candidates with expertise in media diversity and an understanding of short form content production across digital platforms.
Principal duties will include:
- Design and delivery of teaching and assessment at foundation year, undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Production and dissemination of research outputs
- Academic administration
- Pastoral support of students
- Recruitment and outreach activities
Applicants will be expected to:
- Hold a PhD in a relevant area (or have taken their viva voce) or demonstrate equivalent core knowledge and expertise gained from leading edge practice (essential).
- Have experience of teaching and assessing student work at undergraduate level (essential)
- Have published or presented their research externally or demonstrate industry experience in the field of media production (video and audio), with a knowledge of associated technical equipment and digital editing software (essential)
- Hold a PGCertHE teaching qualification or be accredited via the UK Professional Standards Framework for Higher Education (desirable)
- Have experience in developing research funding proposals (desirable)
- Have experience of higher education quality processes (desirable)

Our academic staff are eligible to enrol in the Teachers’ Pension, a Defined Benefit scheme that includes guaranteed benefits for life, including the option of a tax-free lump sum at retirement and life cover of three times your salary. We recognise the value a great pension can have for our employees, and we make a 23.68% employer contribution. Your personal monthly contributions will vary between 7.4% and 11.7%, depending on your salary. We also give all staff a 32-day annual leave allowance, in addition the 8 public and bank holiday days.

Based in the heart of England, the city is easily accessible by road, rail and air. Birmingham New Street station has recently undergone major redevelopment, while the city is at the heart of the high-speed rail network, HS2.
