The Department of Art and Media Technology at the Winchester School of Art invites applications for a one-year artist in residence, aimed at mid-career printmakers with a national/international reputation whose practice reflects the innovative intermedia approach of the department as a whole. With access to world-class facilities including expansive studios and workshops, the Winchester Gallery, and the John Hansard Gallery, you will be well placed for exciting professional development.
Our welcoming department includes staff and students working in complementary programmes including Games Design and Art, Global Media, Contemporary Curating, and Arts and Cultural Leadership. The School, which recently celebrated its sesquicentennial, is part of the University of Southampton, and includes world-class departments of Design and Fashion and Textiles as well as Art and Media Technology. The person who fills this post would likewise be encouraged to forge connections across the University.

About the role
We seek candidates with a passion for teaching and a strong professional network in and/or beyond the UK, who are excited about the opportunity to join a vibrant community of students and practitioners, coordinating the teaching activities of the printmaking studio at our landmark, historic School in Semester 1, and developing a research- and/or teaching-led exhibition at the Winchester Gallery in Semester 2.
As a successful candidate, you will have the following qualifications:
- A strong printmaking practice that engages in the intersections between digital and analogue printmaking methods.
- A practice that intersects meaningfully with the specialisations of existing academic and technical staff at the School of Art and in the Department of Art and Media Technology.
- A meaningful commitment to questions of sustainability, equity, and social justice in the context of your teaching and research.
- Evidence of excellence and innovation in teaching and learning, including experience with and enthusiasm for engaging and mentoring students.
- Availability to be on the Winchester campus at least two full days per week.
