Job description
The Department of Film, Theatre and Television is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Filmmaking to join its lively and creative team in the teaching of film and television practice.
This part-time, fixed-term (until 31/08/2026) post will help enhance our provision of critically informed practice-teaching within the Department. The post-holder will facilitate deeper industry engagement in teaching by reaching out to screen businesses moving into Reading’s burgeoning ‘Cine Valley’, providing students with strong connections to potential careers. The ideal candidate will be a practitioner and skilled teacher with current industry networks, an interest in the intersection of theory and practice, and a commitment to sustainability, diversity and inclusion.
The University of Reading is not only the originator in HE film teaching in the UK, it now sits in the country’s fastest growing film and television industry hub. The Department is actively engaged in major developments such as Shinfield Studios – the UK’s biggest new-build studio complex, sited on the university’s research campus – and with regional partners we have recently been awarded funding to set up one of the BFI’s Skills Clusters.
You will have:
- Excellent teaching skills, including the ability to teach critically informed film and television practice at undergraduate level.
- A record of professional practice in film and / or television, with specialist expertise in cinematography, editing and/or sound.
- Good administrative skills and experience of module convening.
- Enthusiasm and commitment; flexibility, proactivity and the ability to work sensitively and skilfully in teams.
This is a fixed term position until 31/08/2026
