Edinburgh College of Art is seeking an enthusiastic and pro-active individual for the post of Lecturer in Fashion in the School of Design.
The Opportunity:
The post has a focus on, and responsibility for, a proportion of the teaching of our Undergraduate students, and possibly future Post Graduate students. The work will involve preparing, scheduling and delivering courses in studio and on-line, including lectures, workshops, seminars, tutorials, supporting course administration, and the setting and assessing of assignments.
You will contribute to leadership, management, citizenship and administrative duties across teaching and research activities, commensurate with the role.
The post includes scope to undertake a future 3-5 year role as Programme Director for Fashion Design, in line with the University’s approach to rotational leadership opportunities. Therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate dynamic leadership skills, including ambition to uphold and developing the teaching quality and overall academic vision for the Programme.
The Programme places a strong focus on encouraging socially responsible and ‘emotionally considerate’ design practices that address equalities, inclusion, ability, and well-being in the context of Fashion Design. You will demonstrate an understanding of this important subject in relation to ongoing needs in Fashion Design, including leading in decolonizing curriculum content, course delivery and teaching methods.
You will also be expected to support the School's ongoing vision to embed sustainable and environmentally consider design practices and solutions at the core of future Programme and Curriculum development, teaching and student outputs.
You will be expected to supervise PHD candidates and contribute where appropriate to broader cross-disciplinary teaching (at both postgraduate and undergraduate level) and future curriculum development.
Building on a pre-existing track record of research of a high international standard, you will be expected to produce high quality research and knowledge exchange activities of national and international standing and impact in the field of fashion design.

Your skills and attributes for success:
- You will have experience of teaching, leadership and educational administration in higher/further education.
- You will evidence of a clear track record of research outputs.
- You will be expected to have extensive knowledge and expertise of methods and processes relating to fashion design teaching.
- You will have an acute understanding of contemporary international fashion design, and diverse markets.
- You should have experience of arranging and leading on industry collaboration and network building in fashion education.
- You must be experienced in supporting equalities, diversity and inclusion within a teaching and learning context.
- You will ideally hold knowledge and experience of decoloniality in the context of fashion design teaching.
