Primary role purpose
The DET lecturerwill be responsible for teaching and assessing across the course portfolio in such subjects as may be assigned to you from time to time. This will include teaching and assessing students across a range of written and oral skills and giving individual feedback on students’ performances.
Key duties
- Assist in the preparation of assignments and assessments.
- Mark students’ written assignments, coursework assessments and examinations within stated deadlines and to the required standard.
- Participate in course design and review.
- Participate in students’ curricular and practice related activities.
- Participate in the presentation and/or design of the Professional Skills Course, regional and national Professional Development courses and other academy’s activities and programmes.
- Teaching groups of students in a lecture, seminar or classroom setting
- Writing lesson plans and schemes of work
- Continual assessment and monitoring of student’s work
- Preparing resources and materials for sessions
- Record keeping and other administration
- Providing pastoral support for your students via one to one sessions and on an ad hoc basis
- Liaising with colleagues and leaders
- Being the public face of the organisation at open days and parents’ evenings
- Interviewing and inducting new students
- Supervising learning activities outside of the college, such as field trips
- Researching and maintaining knowledge of educational policy, learning theory and subject specific developments
- Overseeing assessment activities and exams
- Partaking in ongoing course evaluation exercises
- Managing your time and working to deadlines as per the yearly cycle
Highly desirable
- Industry Experience: Having experience working in the business industry can help you bring real-world examples and practical insights to your lectures.
- Effective communication skills.
- A passion for teaching and a desire to inspire and mentor students are highly desirable.
- A drive to motivate and inspire students to achieve their goals.
Essential for the role
- Teaching qualification.
- At least two to three years of teaching experience at a college or university level.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Demonstrated knowledge of DET.
- Ability to meet deadlines, trouble shoot and look at innovative means to problem solve.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently & as part of a team.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written & verbal).
- Strong attention to detail.

Salary: £35,408.45-£38,242.55 per year
