King’s Academy is the centre for educational development dedicated to supporting all staff in enhancing the teaching and learning environment within the College. King’s Academy is currently expanding its range of activities and the role of Assessment Adviser will be an important part of this expansion.
King’s Academy is part of the School of Professional and Continuing Education (PACE). PACE both delivers teaching (King’s Academy King’s Foundations, Summer Programmes, King’s Language Centre) and works collaboratively with our nine Faculties enabling them to deliver professional and online education (KPED and King’s Online)
King’s Academy is currently expanding its team and range of activities and the role of Programme, module and assessment design lead will be key to this expansion.
About the Role
There is a clear need for faculty-level driven change to engage with faculty members to support improvements in Assessment and Feedback practices, including developing relationships between staff and students, building a sense of shared purpose, and working to ensure consistency and clarity around Assessment and feedback.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with appropriate disciplinary experience for the post of Lecturer on the King’s Academic Education Pathway (AEP) with a focus on Assessment and Feedback.
This is an exciting opportunity for candidates looking to develop in an education development role, and who wish to utilise their skills and expertise in assessment and feedback development.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.
This is a full-time post, but we welcome applications from candidates seeking a flexible work pattern within our necessary service operating hours.

Key responsibilities
  • Work closely with one faculty, as part of a small team of assessment advisers, to provide in-depth support and expertise in improving assessment and feedback practices.
  • Work closely with the College Assessment Lead and the Academic Director of King’s Academy to ensure alignment with the King’s Academy strategic priorities
  • Work with the wider King’s Academy team to contribute across the portfolio of activities, including developing resources and guidance.

Essential criteria
  • Relevant work experience and/or education: We think a wide range of different work and educational experiences could support you to be successful in this role. Relevant work experience might include work in teaching or designing assessment. Relevant educational experiences might include higher education in a related discipline, professional qualifications or other training
  • Experience in supporting and enhancing others’ teaching
  • Experience of teaching in HE, preferably in a STEM discipline, and in designing assessment and giving feedback
  • Experience of delivering professional development in an education context
  • Evidence of working with professional services teams to support students
  • Ability to engage in collaborative working across King’s professional services, Faculties, and academic and student communities, with a meaningful and visible commitment to Diversity & Inclusion policies and practices
  • Record of scholarly outputs relating to assessment and feedback
  • Knowledge of current issues and best practice assessment and feedback
  • Understanding of the educational, social and cultural factors influencing change in HE, and ability to apply this understanding to the King’s context
Desirable criteria
  • Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy
  • Track record of providing advice and guidance to individuals, departments and institutions on pedagogic issues and the wider student experience
  • Ability to evaluate and use evaluative data to improve practice
