Job description

Summary


The School of Arts & Sciences at Regis College (Weston, MA) seeks an adjunct instructor to teach two sections of Introduction to Philosophy in fall 2023, with potential re-appointment in subsequent semesters. The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in philosophy (or related field) with a strong teaching record of at least three years, and will be responsible for assembling the syllabus and reading list.


Essential Functions:


  • Teach two in-person introductory philosophy courses per term. As both courses are identical, this will involve only one prep.
  • Attend a monthly faculty meeting (optional) to consult on student issues, course assignments, and program updates.
  • Communicate with Humanities faculty as needed to support student learning.


Other Responsibilities:


  • Be available for meetings and mentoring with Department Chair, as needed.
  • Provide office hours and maintain consistent communication with students.
  • Assign grades and provide relevant and substantive feedback in a timely manner
  • Keep track of grades via Moodle Gradebook.
  • Respond to student email inquiries within 24 hours during the week and within 48 hours on weekends, utilizing the university email account.


Requirements:


  • PhD or ABD
  • Experience in teaching face-to-face and developing syllabi and pedagogical instruments in post-secondary education settings
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite, LMS-Moodle and willingness to learn technology tools used to support student learning
  • Ability to uphold the university's commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.


Working Conditions/Physical Demands:


  • Normal classroom environment, not subject to extremes in noise, odors, etc.
