Full Time Wingrave, England 10.05 GBP HOURLY Today
Job description

Are you looking for a chance to earn some extra money in your spare time working flexible hours? Or perhaps you're interested in seeing if a career as a Learning Support Assistant is right for you!

How Relief hours work

It's a bit like a zero-hour contract but without the bad bits.

  • You don't have to work when it's not convenient for you.
  • Receive the same training towards professional qualifications as permanent staff.
  • We offer these contracts not because it suits us but because it suits you.
  • With over 95% of our staff are on permanent contracts you will be supported to apply for one when its right for you.
  • Job security and career development

The Relief (Bank) post supports the permanent rota staff by completing shifts that are vacant due to annual leave, training and other staff absences. As such, hours are non-specific, but your manager will endeavour to balance the needs of the school against your own work/life balance as appropriately as possible.

We normally plan the rotas one month in advance, but additional opportunities also come up due to unexpected staff absences.

No two days are the same for a Learning Support Assistant at Macintyre School in Wingrave, whether you are heading out into the community on work experience, developing life skills in the kitchen, making music or getting messy in a sensory play activity. In this role you will be making a real difference in a young person’s life, now and for their future. Without a doubt, one of the most rewarding parts of this role is that you get to learn from your students every day. Watching them overcome obstacles and work so hard to make progress is one of the most inspiring things in the world. Each young person is unique and discovering their individual needs, strengths and differences is all part of what makes this school a very special place.

The role:

You will be joining a class of up to 6 students aged 10-19 who have severe learning disabilities and a range of complex needs. Working in smaller classes and supporting young people 1 to 1 means you can really invest the time getting to know them, learning what it is they really need and being able to offer the right help at the right time. During your day you will be working closely with the class teacher and the rest of your team to deliver an innovative and challenging curriculum, individually tailored to each student. Although working 1:1 you will have the opportunity to work with and build strong relationships with all the students in your class.

This is a term-time only role : 38.5 hours a week (41 weeks per year)

About you

We are looking for warm, caring, positive and resilient people who will put the children at the centre of everything they do. You don’t have to have experience. If you are inspired by supporting young people with complex needs to achieve and live happy fulfilled lives in a way that makes sense to them, then we would love to hear from you. We provide a comprehensive induction and training package with the opportunity to work alongside experienced team members who will support you on your journey.

Who are we?

MacIntyre School offers an innovative and challenging curriculum individually tailored to provide each student with the best possible learning opportunities and outcomes. It is focused on developing communication, functional skills and independence in context. Learning takes place throughout the waking day whether at school, in the residential houses or out in the community, where we provide an exciting range of off-site learning activities.

Learning activities may include: life skills (e.g. using public transport, shopping, cooking and cleaning), physical exercise (e.g. climbing, swimming, walking, water sports), work experience (e.g. on a farm), community access (e.g. in shops or cafes) or class based activities (e.g. music and dance & creative arts).

Awarded “Good” at our Ofsted inspection, here are some of the reasons you'll enjoy joining our team:

'Adults never stop wanting the best for the pupils. They see what each pupil might be capable of and work patiently and determinedly towards it. This is a school of aspiration and positivity.'

'Leaders know their school well and have a deep understanding of the complex context. The strong leadership from senior leaders has already resulted in much success. Staff are extremely proud to work at this school, and rightly so.'
