Are you a qualified, experienced, energetic and creative youth worker professional ready for the next step in your career. This Youth Lead role is your opportunity to join Adoption UK at an exciting time, as we begin a new youth project funded by John Lewis and develop new projects across England.

Who we are
Adoption UK’s vision is for an equal chance of a bright future for every child unable to live with their birth parents, and we are the leading charity providing connection, support and advocacy for adoptive families.

Adoption UK’s vision is for an equal chance of a bright future for every child unable to live with their birth parents, and we are the leading charity providing connection, support and advocacy for adoptive families.

We offer hope and understanding by providing vital support, training, community, and voice to all those involved in adoption, including prospective adopters, adoptive families, adopted young people and adults, and professionals.

We are passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that celebrates and values diversity. We welcome your application whatever your background or situation. Under-representative groups such as ethnic minorities and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to build a career with us. We don’t want you to ‘fit’ our culture, we want you to enrich it.

What you’ll be doing

The Chance to Thrive Programme is our commitment to increasing the number of adopted young people across the country who are given access to our youth programme. By addressing the lack of bespoke support services, we will be able to address both adopted young people’s mental health and their future education and employment. Our methodology proposes that young people who feel supported and valued will be positively engaged, develop new skills and be better able to navigate life’s changes.

Working 35 hours per week, you will have the exciting opportunity to deliver ‘The Bridge’ project, a specialist employability programme for 14–15 year-old adopted young people that are most at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training). It aims to develop valuable employability skills, improve careers knowledge, and raise confidence and aspirations through specialist guidance, support, and connections to youth workers and business mentors.

You will also play a key role in developing and rolling out new youth projects across areas of England, building on our successful youth projects in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

You will ensure the young people are involved and participate in the development of the service whilst working with the organisation to ensure the highest level of service is provided and regulatory standards are met.

Collaborating with colleagues across Adoption UK, adoption agencies, adoption services and other stakeholders, you will learn and share best practice and ensure the success of the programme giving future young people opportunities to be involved.

Who you are

With a background in youth work and managing groups of children and young people, you will bring together your passion to connect, engage and work with children and young people to ensure child centred services, you will also have:

· Sound knowledge of youth work and the principles of the UNCRC

· Good in-depth understanding of the needs of adopted or looked after children and young people and the ability to empathise.

· Be able to demonstrate significant experience of working in a youth work setting

· Excellent communication and people skills

· Confidence providing emotional safety support for young people

You will hold a relevant youth work qualification, however we are happy to consider people with alternative qualifications if you have significant management and youth work experience.

What we offer:

The role attracts a full-time salary of £28,988 - £32,094.

We offer generous annual leave which accumulates with service, Christmas Closure, Development Days, Enhanced Family Leave Policies and enhanced sick pay.

Adoption UK positively embraces flexible working recognising that employees may wish to balance work and family/home life. We are happy to discuss your circumstances at interview stage.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect everyone working with us to share this commitment.

If you have a passion for making a difference and share in our vision for adoptive and kinship care families, we would love to hear from you.

The closing date for applications is 06 March 2023. Interviews dates are to be confirmed.

If you have any questions or if you consider yourself to have a disability or learning difficulties which means you are unable to complete the application process online, please get in touch with People Services by calling 01295 752253 and we will be happy to help.
