Job description
Provide statistical advice, recommendations on methods, training and implementation of innovative methodologies for analysis at the BBC. Work with the Experimentation team to set the standardised methodologies for a wide variety of product teams to analyse data and make evidence-based decisions.
- Lead the development, assessment and introduction of new statistical technology and methodology, including statistical model-based product development approaches using frequentist and/or Bayesian methodologies.
- Perform as a highly competent and experienced senior level statistician by functioning as a technical resource and internal statistical consultant across product areas, and as a coach/mentor to Experimentation team and other BBC staff.
- Conduct or supervise, advanced statistical analyses to address complex design problems across product areas, for instance, performing complex simulations to determine sample size and power considerations for different experiment design options.
- Communicate complex issues in nontechnical language by using visuals, simulations and other illustrative techniques.
- Effectively advise cross-functional or multi-disciplinary groups by using technical expertise to pro-actively influence business decisions. Especially, when it comes to the finding efficiencies in processes, identifying underlying patterns and trends in analysis for experimentation.
- Provide statistical sciences training to BBC employees from different disciplines on advanced statistical concepts
- Stay current with ongoing developments in AB testing statistical methodologies used in testing applications (e.g. Optimizely) in the digital industry.
- Validate the capabilities of the experimentation platform with the right statistical methodologies and processes.
- Help build and expand the statistical process to guide teams to make their experiments more sensitive and reliable
- Partner with teams across the company to improve the impact of statistical analysis, especially by making it easier, more effective to analyse large and complex data sets .
- Work closely with data engineering partners to implement sophisticated statistical methodology into the platform.
- Develop ongoing reporting on key indicators including control effectiveness, operational efficiency and other analysis requirements.
- Develop and maintain easily digestible documentation on the considerations, limitations and common misunderstandings in data analysis for Experimentation
- Develop a tool set of methodologies for consistent analysis and accurate conclusions or different user cases across the BBC
- You have a PhD in Statistics, Mathematics or Data Science.
- Strong experience needed with advanced statistical methodology including Bayesian, Sequential, Multi-arm bandit and other Experimental design approaches
- Strong knowledge of statistical methods, Experience utilizing SQL, SAS or R programming and other tools to manipulate and analyze complex data sets
- Ability to demonstrate the application of us of these methodologies in digital populations
- Excellent communication in English both written and verbal
- Excellent knowledge in visualisation and simulation techniques
