Every year, Scottish Water is pleased to host a variety of summer internship programmes, open to university students in the penultimate year of their degree programmes. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your studies and challenge yourself to develop your practical skills in line with your future career aspirations.
We are delighted this year to be able to offer a 12-week Summer Internship from June to September 2023, specialising in Hydraulic Modelling.
What might life look like as a Hydraulic Modelling Intern?
Scottish Water’s Summer Internship scheme will give you a taste of what it feels like to work in one of the largest water companies in the world.
This role will be located in the Central Belt, with flexibility to work independently in a Hybrid manner.
As a Hydraulic Modelling Intern, you will learn how Scottish Water digitally maps our Water & Wastewater assets using bespoke modelling software to better understand network performance.
You may be involved in.
  • Understanding how to build a hydraulic model
  • Running model simulations to understand impact on the Water & Wastewater networks based on e.g., climate change, growth
  • Data Analytics
  • Programming
  • Model results sharing & presentation
  • Understanding how the environment is impacted by Scottish Water customers
What does a successful candidate look like?
To be eligible to apply for this internship programme you will be a penultimate year student (for example in your third year of a four-year course, or in your fourth year but going on to study a master’s degree).
You will be studying towards a degree typically in:
  • Engineering
  • Environmental Science
  • Mathematics
  • Economics
  • Business Analytics
  • Geography
