Lead Software Developer
Up to £75,000 per year plus various company benefits
Worthing, West Sussex – Hybrid
Full time, Permanent
Please note: This is a Hybrid role, so you will be required to attend our Head Office a minimum of 1 day per week/fortnight (amount is dependant on location)
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Lead Developer to join our expanding in-house software delivery team. The successful candidate will work closely within an Agile delivery squad and have the exciting opportunity to influence and shape our technical journey.
As a PHP Developer, you’ll have vast experience of PHP and PHP frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony, strong working knowledge of source control using Git (we use Bitbucket), and any experience in implementing CI/CD processes.
You’ll be passionate about and keep up to date with the latest tech stacks, bringing drive and ambition to the team. Your someone who is confident in leading others and experience in building and coaching highly effective teams. You will have experience in mentoring and training other engineers and have great personable and communication skills. You have a test first mindset with experience in covering all aspects of the delivery lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership and personal development of team members.
- Guide technical architecture to ensure robust and secure systems.
- Adhere to and demonstrate clear understanding of key security principles associated with building modern web-based applications.
- Work with applicable frameworks and existing codebase to resolve issues and complete code reviews.
- Ensure you are proficient in the toolsets required to perform day to day duties.
- Work effectively within team, providing clear updates to Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and team members.
- Collaborate with team members to determine best practices and client requirements for software.
- Maintain a consistent level of professionalism when communicating with colleagues and clients.
- Develop intuitive software that meets and exceeds the needs of the company.
- Actively seek ways to improve business software processes and interactions.
- Work with Product Owner to scope out work and provide clear estimations.
- Create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture.
- Provide feedback to team members through Code Review process.
- Lead by example and provide guidance and support to team members through their day-to-day workloads.
- Assist with training and internal workshops and encourage a culture of continuous learning.
- Set out coding standards and secure delivery practices.
- Stay hands on with daily development work to move projects forwards.
Requirements:
Required skills and experience
- Commercial experience with PHP developing in house core applications.
- Good knowledge of Object Orientated coding and coding Principles.
- Recent use of PHP frameworks such as Laravel.
- Extensive knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL.
- Proven experience building and maintaining APIs.
- Updating and altering application features to enhance performance.
- Proficient with code versioning tools.
- Prior working experience in Agile methodologies.
- Experience with JavaScript Frameworks such as Angular or React
Desired skills and experience
- Experience with automated testing such as TDD, BDD, E2E Browser testing.
- Experience with AWS including Containerisation, Kubernetes, EC2, RDS, S3 and LAMBDA is beneficial.
- A DevOps mindset and experience of working with CI/CD pipelines and using code quality and security scanning tools SonarCloud and Snyk.
