The role as a Lead, Public Affairs:
- Within the Public Affairs team, under the management of the Public Affairs Director and in collaboration with all relevant functional and business teams, you will be working on all public affairs issues for the three Divisions of Chanel (Fashion, Fragrance and Beauty, and Watches and Jewellery), for the UK and the different regional organizations as needed, and for the company generally on transverse issues.
- Part of a small but very dynamic team that, given how intrinsically linked regulations and public affairs work are in today’s world, is an integral part of legal department, you will participate in the evolution of a public affairs function that works to anticipate regulatory changes, measure their impact on our business models, and create a dialogue with regulators and the business to align business models with policy and societal requirements. You will be given the opportunity to work on a wide range of issues, such as, for example, sustainability and wider ESG considerations, ingredients regulations, consumer policy, intellectual property and anticounterfeiting, selective distribution and other competition issues, trade, etc.
- The scope of the position is global, but there will be a strong focus on UK affairs.
Job description:
- Monitor policy initiatives, which are likely to have an impact on the activities of Chanel;
- Inform relevant teams internally in a timely manner and in simple terms and work with them to better assess the impact of policy initiatives and define the level of priority;
- Draft and review, together with the relevant experts in the Legal department and the business, position papers prepared by Chanel and its trade associations;
- Work closely with the multiple trade associations Chanel is a member of or with Chanel’s representatives in such associations, to anticipate challenges, identify opportunities, define positions and strategies and reach out to key stakeholders in order to be a key driver on regulatory issues impacting our business;
- Prepare and attend associations’ meetings as or for Chanel’s representative, defend or help defend our positions and prepare or help prepare the reports back to internal teams;
- Assist in the organization or preparation of meetings with Government or other public authorities (individual meetings, hearings, site visits, etc.), as necessary, by carrying out the necessary research on topics and participants and by preparing briefings for Chanel’s participants;
- Help prepare and give internal presentations on public affairs activities or specific issues;
- Support the Public Affairs Director in structuring and organizing the Public Affairs function to implement knowledge management and internal tracking and reporting tools.
What you will bring to the role:
- Political sciences and/or law degree, legal training/background is a must;
- 5 to 8 years of experience working for an institution, a public affairs consultancy, or in-house; Experience working in Government or other public authorities would be a plus;
- Fluent oral and written English is a must, French and/or additional languages would be a plus;
- Excellent writing and presentation skills;
- Strong influencing and interpersonal skills;
- Excellent listening skills, and humility.
