Lead Project Manager Derby, England

East Midlands Railway
Full Time Derby, England 30052 - 54584 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

We are proud to be One Team at East Midlands Railway (EMR). We are passionate about keeping people safe, delighting our customers, doing the right thing and putting customers at the heart of our sustainable railway for the East Midlands. With over 2,500 employees, our people are the reason we are so successful and the Fleet Programmes team make a crucial contribution to this. Five times accredited as a Top Employer, we value our people and are dedicated to making sure that everybody feels empowered to bring their authentic self to work. We have an exciting opportunity to work at #TeamEMR as a Lead Project Manager.

At EMR we want to proactively embrace diversity across our workforce and recognise that we are under-represented in terms of females and ethnic minority groups. We’re therefore taking positive steps to promote a positive and inclusive culture; we welcome applications from those that identify with these groups to better represent our communities.

Reporting to the Fleet Programme Manager, you will plan and deliver a programme of small to large-scale projects that will meet business objectives and implement positive change across our Operations, Fleet and Safety departments. You will manage resource requirements and use good project management and business processes to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and to budget.

Engaging a range of key stakeholders across Operations, Fleet and Safety functions, and the wider business will be central to your role. We are looking for someone who prioritises great communication, is comfortable with influencing and negotiating to gain stakeholder buy-in and uses a highly collaborative approach to deliver successful outcomes.

As Lead Project Manager, you will:

  • Plan and deliver projects within your assigned programme, managing project milestones and budgets against EMR’s annual business plan and franchise contract
  • Use good project management practices and business processes to deliver the programme, reporting on progress and using escalation paths as required
  • Manage all programme resource requirements; delegating workload and escalating requirements to the Fleet Programme Manager as required
  • Ensure all projects are supported by robust project documentation (e.g. business cases, project plans, risk and issue registers, budgets and reports), change management and disruption plans
  • Engage regularly with internal and external programme stakeholders throughout planning and delivery phases
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, without compromising business operational, occupational or engineering safety management
  • Oversee project closure and reporting processes in successful transition to BAU

To be successful in this role you will be:

  • Strong Lead Project Management experience, across all core disciplines (including developing business cases, project planning, stakeholder management, budget management, risk management, resource management and maintaining project documentation).
  • A great all-round communicator, verbal and written
  • Experienced in managing a programme of projects, ideally in an operational or safety environment; rail industry preferred but not essential
  • Knowledgeable in core project management disciplines to a project lead standard
  • Educated to degree level, ideally with a project management qualification (e.g. APM, Prince 2), or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Adaptable, can work alone and as part of a team
  • Computer literate, with ability to use MS Office
  • A self-starter, who can build and influence stakeholder relationships across all levels of the business to achieve results

As well as a competitive salary, we’ll also offer you:

  • Defined benefit Pension scheme
  • Free First Class duty Travel on the EMR network
  • Free standard leisure travel on the EMR network and Train Operating Companies under Abellio & LNER
  • Friends and Family discounted tickets on the EMR network
  • 75% discount on national leisure travel (inc partner and dependants)
  • Flexible working hours
  • 32 days holiday per year

EMR has a hybrid working policy which is applicable for this role. This means the role can be based at home 2-3 days per week and in the office 2-3 days per week. Should you wish to work full time in the office, this is also an option.
