Job description
We are looking for a Lead Presenter to present a live news-led programme for BBC Radio Wales. The successful candidate will be an experienced broadcaster with an in-depth knowledge of Welsh current affairs, public life and culture and a confident and charismatic presentation style. They should be comfortable holding power to account and adept at dealing with subjects that will range from Welsh politics to sport. They must possess first class interviewing skills and be able to adapt their approach to a wide variety of guests. We are looking for personality, integrity and warmth.
- Presents live and is able to adapt to unfolding stories while on air.
- Has a presentation style that is fluent, characterful and credible and engages the listener.
- Adapts style for different subjects and different audiences.
- Observes BBC Editorial Guidelines always ensuring impartiality and balance.
- Provides timely, specialist and self-assured news coverage and analysis on news and events of interest to Welsh audiences.
- Interviews specialists and those involved at the centre of stories. Interviews policy makers from Welsh, UK and international organisations, holding them to account where relevant.
- Broadcasts in a manner which is, engaging, entertaining and readily understandable by a non-specialist audience, making complex issues accessible.
- Acts as an ambassador for the BBC to the audience concerned, being comfortable with policy makers, high profile people, and audiences.
- Generates ideas and stories; contributes to the creative treatment and production of an item or programme; provides clear treatments and proposals, ensuring consistency of content, quality and style.
- Takes journalistic accountability for content that they are involved in researching/producing/writing, whether or not they personally present that piece of work.
- Build and maintain diverse contact lists; compile and distribute information with other members of the team.
- An organised approach to work, and the ability to meet tight deadlines with a minimum of supervision.
- An experienced and principled presenter who has proved their ability and built a relationship with the Welsh audience.
- A real understanding of how Wales works - its people, its history and its culture.
- Excellent interviewing technique.
- Demonstrates balanced and impartial judgement.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of broadcast and computer-based technology and stays abreast of developments in this field.
- Strong team-working ethic and ability to build strong relationships with key people in other parts of the BBC.
- Ability to convey story and programme ideas and to contribute fully to the planning process.
- Commitment to provide digital content enhancing the reach of the programme.
- Demonstrates a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understands how individual differences can benefit the BBC.
- The flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.
