Job description
An opportunity has arisen to work within the Environmental Health Team of Canterbury City Council. You will work closely with, and deputise for the Environmental Health Manager.
Your main role will be as lead food officer responsible for all aspects of food safety so must have the knowledge and experience to meet the competency criteria for the role. A knowledge of the shellfish industry would be an advantage but not a requirement.
You will be part of a caring, dynamic, and hardworking team of experienced officers who cover the whole range of food hygiene, health and safety and infectious disease investigations supporting local businesses whilst protecting public health. Most work is
undertaken during office hours Monday to Friday, however, there will be some need to work evenings and/or weekends depending on service demands.
The successful candidate will hold the BSc. or MSc. in Environmental Health (or equivalent), be experienced in undertaking formal action and leading approved premises inspections.
Training and development of officers are important to us and you will have opportunities to not only meet your CPD but for the right candidate we can consider further professional qualifications subject to service priorities.
To succeed, you will bring a track record of working collaboratively with internal and external partners, demonstrating good customer care and communicational skills to identify innovative and creative approaches to complaints and Canterbury Council’s objectives. You will have the ability to take an organised approach to your own workload whilst dealing with conflicting priorities and to ensuring a customer service focused approach.
The post will allow you to work from home on a flexible basis allowing you to cover your 37 hour week to suit your lifestyle.
