Lead Distribution Manager - Croydon, Southampton and Woking VOC's

Job Purpose
The Distribution Manager will be responsible for the safe and legal operation of the fleet and distribution operations the management team, ensuring continuous and effective management of our legal obligations to the Traffic Commissioner. Accountability for leadership of managerial and frontline teams who are trained and motivated to effectively ensure mail/parcel transportation between Plants, Network and Collection hubs, Delivery Offices and our external Customers
Key Accountabilities
- Responsible for ensuring safe operations through adherence to agreed safety policies, procedures and regulations including accident investigation and intervention measures
- Build effective stakeholder relationships with peers, pipeline colleagues and our customers
- Lead pipeline performance and continuous improvement activity utilising balanced scorecard/key performance Indicator metric outputs including achieving targets for Depart To Time and Arrive To Time
- Professionalise distribution utilising programme enablers ensuring operational work plans are achieved efficiently and that the pipeline optimises the operation
- Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements applicable to all fleet/trucks – holder of ‘O’ Licence for site and Certificate of Professional Competence holder
- Build effective relationships with Fleet Business Partner and Workshop Manager to ensure regular review of fleet utilisation in response to operational need, maximising efficiency opportunities
- Ensure all Distribution management systems are complied with e.g Isotrack, Vision
- Create a culture where people feel trusted and engaged to give their best
- Manage Individual and Team Performance with performance management activity in place for all TOM’s, including 121’s and Personal Development Plans
- Develop an excellent IR/ER climate with full involvement of Distribution employees and the CWU
- Develop effective training plans to support national and local training needs utilising Advance Driver Coaches and identify key internal talent within the function to develop a talent plan for the unit
- Co-ordinate robust special event plans and delivery
- Lead the coordination of local planning and resourcing and build positive agency supplier relationships
- Plan and deployment of annual network revision locally in conjunction with the CWU
Key Skills,Experience and Qualifications
- Knowledge of safety requirements and accident investigation
- Industry experience and working knowledge of logistics operations or a related industry, leading teams and delivering results
- Knowledge of UK road transport legislation, must be Certificate of Professional Competence qualified or be prepared to study to attain within 12 months (essential role criteria)
- Strategic planning and project management skills, data/budgetary analysis skills
- Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and excellent influencing skills
- Negotiating with both CWU/CMA at local and area level
- Experience of Continuous Improvement
Location
Location must be a Distribution site within the cluster. Daily travel within this cluster along with national travel as required
Covers Croydon, Southampton and Woking VOC’s.
