We would welcome applications from experienced dental nurses to support the management of the specialised dental clinics.
You will supervise the dental team, and support dentists to ensure that the service delivers a high standard of care to our patients.
You will be:
Calm, patient, and caring keen to support vulnerable groups in obtaining dental treatment
Have experience of dealing with, or the aptitude to deal with challenging situations at times
Have previous experience in Line management
Able to delegate and make proactive decisions
Qualified and able to provide treatments in a professional manner
Able to work additional hours if offered

The Lead Dental Nurse will provide general Dental Nursing and in addition will supervise a team of Registered Dental Nurses to include allocation of work, supervision sessions, conducting appraisals, rota management and act as first point of contact for day-to-day matters of Dental Nurses to ensure the smooth running of the services.
You will need to provide good leadership and direction for staff as a team and individually setting objectives to achieve activity and patient expectation. The post holder will need to promote a management style that acknowledges staff contribution and enhances motivation and development at all levels.

1. Day to day supervision of Dental Nurses and allocation of work, including rota management and annual leave to facilitate the smooth running of the Service.
2. Ensures that all clinical audits are completed and returned to the relevant Trust department.
3. Oversees the day to day running of the clinics.
4. Provide clinical and administrative support to dentists.
5. Ensures all dental instruments, equipment is maintained and available for a range of dental procedures, in accordance with Clinical policies.
6. Liaises with external contractors when required.
7. Assembles and dismantles dental equipment.
8. Chair and minute at least 3 Dental Nurse Peer Review sessions per annum, acting on any concerns or issues that arise.
9. The Postholder will engage with Service Users on a daily basis either face to face, electronically or over the telephone
10. Contribute to local policies and procedures.
Communication
- Communicates condition related information to patients and staff.
- Deals sensitively and tactfully with all service users, there may be barriers to understanding, for example when working with nervous patients, children and clients with learning disabilities.
- To communicate competently with laboratory companies and external organisations such as NHS111, NHS England, General Medical and Dental Practitioners and local Hospitals.
- The jobholder will be required to exercise tact and discretion and have effective working relationships with Dental Nurse colleagues, Dentists, Service Managers and Clinical Lead.
- Provision of comprehensive documentation to evidence 1-1 meetings, appraisals, Peer Review Meetings and other relevant documentation
- Pro-active in collecting patient feedback after each patient interaction.
- Clearly communicates with the Dental Nurse team allocated roles at the commencement of each shift.
- Actively engages with the Leadership team and contributes at team meetings.
- Participate/chair local team meetings.
1. Responsible for stock control and timely maintenance of dental equipment
2. Handles cash from sale of oral hygiene products and patient income.
3. Authorises staff expenses, stock orders when required.
4. Ensuring sufficient stock control to enable the Practice to run as efficiently as possible.
People Management
1. Responsible for day-to-day supervision of staff within the location; specifically, rota management, reallocation of duties due to staff shortages, assisting in interview process, appraisal and supervision sessions.
2. Undertake checks that Dental Nurse daily checks and procedures have been undertaken.
3. Responsible for the absence management process including absence monitoring and return to work interviews.
4. Arranges and supports local induction and training for new and existing staff members.
5. Act as a buddy for new members of the team and support less experienced members of the team, including coaching/mentoring.
6. Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and KSF process and clinical and/or management supervision.
Clinical and Practice Governance
1. Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and CCS policy.
2. Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.
3. The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes.
4. The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
5. It is a condition of your employment that you are currently registered with GDC and it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration.
6. Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust.
7. The post holder must participate in clinical and other audits as required.
8. Participate in clinical supervision on a regular basis.
9. The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team.
