Lead Counsel London, England

Snyk
Full Time London, England 134352 - 171680 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Every day, the world gets more digital thanks to tens of millions of developers building the future faster than ever. But with exponential growth comes exponential risk, as outnumbered security teams struggle to secure mountains of code. This is where Snyk (pronounced "sneak") comes in. Snyk is a developer security platform that makes it easy for development teams to find, prioritize, and fix security vulnerabilities in code, dependencies, containers, and cloud infrastructure — and do it all right from the start. Snyk is on a mission to make the world a more secure place by empowering developers to develop fast and stay secure.

Our Opportunity

Snyk is looking for a commercial attorney with an entrepreneurial mindset to support the EMEA and APJ sales teams with commercially-driven legal advice, strong drafting skills and European privacy experience and a tenacious, "can-do" work ethic.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional team members from around the globe, including in Finance, GTM, Sales Operations, Marketing and Procurement. Your approach is pragmatic, customer focused and collaborative – your goal is to reduce friction and enable the business and its customers. You have contract drafting and business negotiation skills gained in both private practice AND in-house. You'll use that knowledge to negotiate and draft agreements with all types of customers, from SMB to enterprise, as well as with channel partners and vendors. You are a motivated self starter and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. You are willing to learn and pick up anything else that gets thrown your way as needed to support a dynamic, innovative company.

You'll Spend Your Time:

  • Drafting, reviewing and closing a broad range of commercial agreements, including Snyk MSAs, DPAs, enterprise customer papers and the occasional NDA.
  • Collaborating with the internal legal team and the regional sales team, updating legal playbooks and improving contracting documents and processes.
  • Providing support, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts related to GDPR and other European data privacy regulations as needed, such as data processing agreements and data transfer agreements.
  • Assisting with legal department projects, including efforts to develop, implement and enhance processes that improve transaction velocity without material increases in risk.
  • Performing the role of Training Principal for our Trainee Solicitor in London.
  • Anything else that gets thrown your way as needed to support a dynamic, innovative company. In your mind, there is no job too big or too small for you. You just want to be part of a team that gets stuff done!

What You'll Need:

  • 8+ years commercial experience, of which a minimum of three years has been spent in-house at a high-growth software-as-a-service company
  • Experience in drafting and advising clients on technology-related commercial agreements, including software licensing, strategic partnerships, reseller arrangements and data processing agreements in EMEA generally, with demonstrated experience negotiating with customers in Germany and France
  • To recognize that success as a commercial lawyer is rooted in a fundamental understanding of the functionality of the products
  • A fundamental understanding of GDPR as it applies to commercial transactions
  • The ability to juggle multiple priorities and tasks whilst remaining cheerful and resilient
  • Strong communication skills, especially communicating legal concepts in simple language to non-lawyers
  • Demonstrable ability of how to balance risks and rewards against a backdrop of competing priorities and stakeholders
  • To be a strong team player

We'd be Lucky if You:

  • Have a CIPP/E IAPP certification and experience with open source software
  • Have a privacy background in advising clients on GDPR and other European privacy regulations and/or open source software licensing experience typically reviewing open source software licenses and advising clients on how to comply with such licensing terms

We care deeply about the warm, inclusive environment we've created and we value diversity – we welcome applications from those typically underrepresented in tech. If you like the sound of this role but are not totally sure whether you're the right person, do apply anyway!
