Job - Lead cardiac Physiologist: Cardiac Rhythm Management

Location - The Wellington Hospital, London

Contract Type - Permanent, full-time at 37.5 hours per week

Salary Range - Equivalent of NHS Band 8A (pension, health cover, flexible benefits and excellent career development)

Job Description

In this role you would be expected to lead the CRM service both clinically and from a service provision/development perspective.

The successful post holder will provide highly specialist clinical knowledge and skills in a broad range of cardiac physiological investigations and deliver expert care for patients undergoing diagnosis and treatment in the Cardiology Department. To have particular responsibility for the provision and expansion of the Cardiac Rhythm management service.

You will also provide managerial and administrative support to the Principal Clinical Cardiac Physiologist and Cardiology Services Manager and assist in managing the technical resource efficiently and effectively, ensuring the smooth running of a quality invasive and non-invasive service to cardiac patients.

Excellent support on Electrophysiology and CRM will be provided with the support of heart rhythm leaders (10 senior Heart Rhythm Specialist consultants) in London

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Taking overall responsibility for the delivery of the various functions that comprise the CRM service.
  • Providing the highly specialist clinical technical services required for the CRM service.
  • Holding responsibility for CRM services policies and accountable for the delivery of CRM services.
  • Lead the development of the CRM service in terms of operational service planning and its long-term strategic development.
  • The provision of all development and specialist training of CRM staff.
  • Setting and maintain practices and a working environment that encourages staff morale and motivation within the area of CRM and in cardiac physiology in general.
  • Participating in national and local professional meetings and providing feedback, knowledge and/or issues to CRM service physiologists.
  • Liaising with Head of Services to facilitate existing services and to develop further services within appropriately resourced and agreed levels.
  • Taking responsibility for the health and safety of all staff, patents and visitors with the department where associated with the CRM service
  • Check clinical reports of colleagues and supervise junior staff.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and quality control of data recorded on relevant databases.
  • Demonstrate highly developed knowledge and skills in a broad range of cardiological investigations.
  • Perform a wide range of standard and complex and advanced procedures as requested by the clinician in Interventional Cath lab Procedures, Pacing & Defib, Stress testing and ambulatory monitoring and be involved in patient preparation for these tests. Experience of Electrophysiology/ablation would be an advantage.
  • To actively develop and contribute to relevant programs of CRM audit and enhancing the contribution of physiologists.
  • Participate in the cardiac emergency oncall service for urgent PCI and device cases

Skills & Experience

  • Must have Minimum of 5 years' experience as a post registration Cardiac Physiologist in UK
  • BHRS/IBHRE/EHRA cardiac Devices accreditation
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner and high level of knowledge in the Cardiac Rhythm Management and catheter labs.
  • Experience to analyse complex issue and make decisions
  • Good understanding of national level CRM programs
  • Electrophysiology and Ablation experience are desirable
  • Member of RCCP desirable
  • In possession of or working towards attaining Intermediate Life Support status
  • Confident communicator with high levels of written and spoken English
  • Working knowledge of IT systems, such as Microsoft Office and Excel.
