Job description
My client are seeking a full time permanent Lead Biomedical Scientist - specialising in Histopathology to play an important role in their UK Laboratory in Cambridgeshire, UK.
Hours: 37.5 per week - core hours (possible early start)
Salary: £40,000 - £48,000 negotiable, depending on experience
This role reports to the Deputy Laboratory Manager and carries line duty responsibilities of MLA's and Lab Scientists.
Technical Duties:
- All aspects of technical testing of routine histopathology.
- Responsibility for one or more processes or projects within the laboratory environment.
- Clinical specimen preparation and dissection (cut up) under guidelines laid down by The Royal College of Pathologists.
- External Quality Assessment scheme audits.
- Timely entry of confidential patient data on LIMS and pathological reports and communication to Clinicians.
- Report stock/equipment levels to Deputy Laboratory Manager.
- Follow and adhere to company policies and procedures in relation to confidentiality, health and safety, COSHH, infection control, and all local safety rules regarding fire, chemical, and physical hazards
- Preparation of data for presentation to management.
- Ensuring the laboratory meets the standards for the handling of clinical specimens in accordance with ISO 15189.
- Participate in preparing SOPs to comply with ISO 15189 and Health and Safety regulations.
- Ensure that the daily activities of the laboratory comply with the Human Tissue Act.
- Ensure that appropriate quality control is carried out for all techniques undertaken, and that sensitive information is secure, accurate and correctly backed up.
- Active participation in periodic internal audits
- Management of LSs and MLAs in their team including onboarding, appraisals, and in-service training.
Skills/Experience/Education:
Essential:
- BSc or equivalent in a biological discipline
- HCPC Registration
- Practical / Lab bench experience working in Pathology Lab environment
- Ability to maintain good labroatory records
- Exemplary organisational skills to manage own workload and that of others in the team
- Computer literate - Microsoft Office (word/Excel) and Database management
- Excellent communication skills
- Sound understanding of H & S Regulations, Human Tissue Governance and how to apply them in the Lab
- Knowledge of Histopathology including understanding relevant theory and/or principles of Lab Processes
Desirable:
- Team/Staff management
- Experiences in Cytological techniques
