Position Overview:
We are looking for a Real Estate Law Clerk with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in private mortgages to join our dynamic team, in our boutique real estate and mortgage law firm. In this role, you will be supporting the legal team and will be responsible for managing the day to day operations of the law firm, including carrying out various administrative services.
In this role you will be accountable for:
- Assisting the legal team with mortgages and other real estate transactions including mortgages, power of sale, purchase agreements, and lease agreements, including drafting documentation and corresponding directly with clients and other law offices telephonically, virtually, and in writing.
- Conducting title searches, corporate searches, reviewing surveys, and assisting with due diligence efforts such as reviewing and obtaining property tax information, insurance binders, mortgage information and discharge statements, client ID and contact information per LSO guidelines, condo status certificates, etc.
- Preparing and filing documents and correspondence with the appropriate authorities.
- Communicating with mortgage brokers, clients, law firms, industry professionals such as land registry staff, registrars, sheriffs’ offices, real estate agents, and lenders regarding transaction status updates.
- Maintaining electronic documents and files as well as hard copy original signed documents.
- Preparing closing documents and coordinating closing procedures including final reports.
- Researching relevant laws and regulations related to real estate transactions, mortgages and conveyancing of property.
- Preparing in Teraview various Mortgage/Charge documents including Notices under s.71, Notices of Assignment of Rents, Mortgage Commitments, 9D and 9E, Discharges of Charges as well as Transfers, Applications of various types, Matrimonial Home Designations, etc.
- Preparing reporting letters and accounts to clients.
- Opening files in Excel, Quickbooks, and Google Docs.
- Drafting and amending correspondence including demand letters, requisition letters, replies to requisitions, etc.
- Scheduling client intake meetings and signing appointments.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications for this role include:
- A diploma in a related Legal Administration and/or Law Clerk program or equivalent years of experience.
- Minimum 2 years of private mortgages experience or a similar position in a real estate, mortgage, or litigation law practice.
- Familiarity with private lending and court documents and filing would be an asset.
- Demonstrated proficiency in bookkeeping such as in QuickBooks, PC Law, Cosmolex, Clio
- Demonstrated proficiency in software such as in MS Office in particular Excel, Teraview, Lawyer Done Deal, FCT, Surefund, and other title insurance service providers.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of real estate law and related regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, efficiently on multiple files.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to complete residential and commercial mortgage transactions from start to finish with minimal supervision.
- Ability to complete residential and commercial purchase and sale transactions from start to finish with minimal supervision.

Salary: $62,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
