Core Responsibilities
- Work closely with internal teams and external legal advisors to provide services, advice and legal support to operational activities of the company regarding various issues to facilitate decision-making.
- Execute or supervise and ensure the follow-up (with or without external counsel) of litigious matters such as collection files, claims of various natures, bankruptcy and insolvency, insurance, operational issues, etc.
- Draft and negotiate legal documentation (letters, formal notices, transactions and releases, agreements, etc.) related to litigation files and to the company’s operational activities.
- Interpret and enforce leases and other real estate leasing and operations documents.
- Draft, review and negotiate the legal aspects of documents pertaining to diverse subjects, such as intellectual property and information technology, operations, employment matters, marketing, insurance, procurement, etc.
- Monitor legislation and keep the Legal Department and other business units abreast of the evolution of pertinent laws and regulations.
- Perform legal research, including through legal databases, and makes recommendations in the form of service notes to the company's internal teams.
- Develop tools and participate in implementing systems and processes for the continuous improvement of the Legal Department and the company.
Required Skills and Experience
- Law clerk, paralegal studies, relevant law degree (J.D., LL.B.), or equivalent and 5 years of experience in a relevant role.
- Experience in the real estate field is an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Knowledge of French an asset but not required.
- Be able to work under pressure with tight timelines on a large number of files and provide the necessary attention to detail.
- Solid interpersonal, management, organizational and incredibly collaborative skills.
