We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Law Clerk to join our team (Personal Injury). In this role, you will be responsible for providing legal and administrative assistance to the Team’s lawyers and other staff. You will be expected to use your knowledge of legal practices and procedures to ensure that all work is done accurately and efficiently and in accordance with the firm’s conduct.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the team, including drafting legal documents, preparing correspondence, and researching legal issues and precedents.
  • Maintain accurate records and files and ensure that all documents are prepared and filed in a timely manner.
  • Monitor deadlines and ensure that all paperwork and filings are completed promptly and accurately.
  • Diarize limitations in FileVine, calendars, and master list.
  • Review intake and advise legal assistants if additional records need to be requested.
  • Send out notice letters when searches are completed and follow up for responses. and confirmations.
  • Review CNRS and productions received.
  • File reviews for upcoming ED preps.
  • Review ED notes and transcripts, put together UT chart, and keep it up to date (cross-reference with counsel’s UT chart and advise lawyer if there’s any discrepancy).
  • Put together DEF’s UTs and follow up regularly.
  • Draft Statements of Claim and Motions.
  • Tort medical assessments: scheduling as instructed, preparation of inst. letters and inst. to assistant re: medical brief. Diarize to f/u re: report.
  • Draft other pleadings as needed (e.g. NOD, NOC, AOS, Requisitions, Trial Records, Notice of Readiness, etc.).
  • Court filing: One-key portal and CaseLines.
  • Schedule Pre-Trials and Trials. Diarize dates, and advise clients.

Qualifications

  • 5 - 10 years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in law or a related field.
  • Paralegal/Law clerk diploma an asset.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other legal software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a small team.
